Not sure the payment fits? Run it through the cost calculator first. It takes half a minute and it folds the origination fee into the real APR — a quoted 36% with a 5% fee actually costs about 46%. If the payment only fits in a month where nothing goes wrong, it does not fit.

What happens after you submit

  1. 01What a lender must show you in writingThe APR, the finance charge, the total of payments, and the payment schedule — all four required under the Truth in Lending Act, before you sign. Those four numbers are the offer; everything else is presentation. Reading them costs nothing and declining costs nothing.
  2. 02Verification is the slow partSome lenders fund the same or next business day after approval, but timing is never guaranteed. It depends on identity and income verification, cut-off times, weekends and holidays, and your own bank's processing. Speed is also the weakest reason to pick a lender — the rate outlasts the wait by every month of the term.
  3. 03If anyone asks for money up front, stopLegitimate U.S. lenders deduct fees from your proceeds or add them to the repayment schedule. A demand for payment before your loan is disbursed is one of the oldest patterns in lending fraud, and it is disqualifying on its own — regardless of how convincing everything else looks.
  4. 04Check the licence before you signNMLS Consumer Access is free and takes about a minute. A licensed lender exceeding your state's ceiling, or an unlicensed one at any rate, is a reason to walk away from an otherwise attractive number.

Before you submit

Credit checks. Credit-check practices vary by lender and by stage. Some lenders use a soft inquiry for initial review; final underwriting may involve a hard inquiry, which can affect your credit score. Review the lender's consent language before continuing.

Contact consent. By submitting, you authorize lenders and lending partners in the network to contact you at the phone number provided, which may include auto-dialed calls, SMS, or prerecorded messages. Consent to marketing contact is not a condition of obtaining credit and may be withdrawn. Message and data rates may apply. You are not obligated to accept any offer.

Sharing. Submitting this form shares your information — including sensitive details such as your Social Security Number and bank account numbers — with the form operator and with lenders and lending partners, so they can evaluate it. That is what makes the referral possible, and it cannot be undone once sent. If you are not comfortable with it, do not complete the form; the calculators and guides are free and require nothing.
