Cookie Policy

Last updated: July 2026

The short version

This site uses very few cookies. The tools — the calculators, the Dashboard, the Paycheck Planner — do not use cookies at all. They store what you type in your own browser using the Web Storage API, and that data is never transmitted to us.

You can review or change your choices at any time through cookie settings, which is also linked in the footer of every page.

What a cookie is, briefly

A small text file a site stores on your device so it can recognise your browser on a later visit. Related technologies — local storage, session storage, pixels — do similar work by different means. This policy covers all of them, because the distinction matters far less to your privacy than what the data is used for.

Categories we use

Strictly necessary — always active

Required for the site to function and to record your cookie choices. Without these the consent banner could not remember that you had answered it.

Includes ss_consent, which stores your preferences locally and contains no identifier.

Functional — optional

Remembers preferences so you do not have to set them again. Not currently used for anything beyond your consent choice itself.

Analytics — optional

With Analytics consent, we count visits to selected pages, calculator interactions, referral clicks, and form loading or first interaction. We store only UTC day, event name, canonical page path, and aggregate count in Cloudflare D1. We do not send calculator inputs, application values, query strings, referrers, cookies, or visitor identifiers in these events. Cloudflare processes network metadata to deliver the service. Counters older than 90 days are removed on the next recorded event. Global Privacy Control disables this measurement, and consent can be withdrawn in Cookie settings.

Advertising — optional

Attribution and measurement for partner marketing. Declining does not change what you see on this site or what a lender may offer you.

The tools do not use cookies

Worth stating separately, because it is the question people ask most. The Dashboard, the Paycheck Planner, and the calculators keep everything in your browser's local storage:

  • ss_loan_tracker_v3 — loans you have added
  • ss_paycheck_planner_v3 — balance, payday, logged spending
  • ss_user_name — the name you chose for the greeting

None of it is sent to our servers, and there is no account to attach it to. Two consequences follow, one good and one worth planning for: we cannot see your figures, and we also cannot recover them. Clearing your browser data deletes them permanently, which is why the Dashboard offers an export.

Third parties on this site

Some pages embed services operated by independent companies. They set their own cookies under their own policies, and we do not control them:

  • Loan request form
The loan request form is operated by an independent third-party provider. Information entered into it is transmitted to that provider and to lenders in its network.
  • CCPA / CPRA request intake
Privacy requests submitted through the embedded form are processed by an independent third-party provider on our behalf.
  • AI assistant
The on-site assistant sends your messages to a hosted language model to generate a reply. Do not enter your Social Security Number, bank account details, or other sensitive personal information into it.

Changing or withdrawing consent

Use cookie settings at any time. Consent you cannot withdraw is not meaningful consent, so the link sits in the footer of every page rather than only in the banner.

You can also clear or block cookies in your browser, and clearing site data will remove the tool storage described above along with them.

Global Privacy Control. If your browser or extension sends a GPC signal, we treat it as an opt-out of the sale or sharing of personal information, without requiring you to interact with the banner.
